Due to the great extent of its territory, covering latitudes from 5 North to 34 South and including altitudes of up to 3,000 meters, Brazil, although an essentially tropical country, present many types of climate. we can distinguish 4 main types: warm and humid as of equatorial zone; tropical, as the high areas, rather bland, as of the Mid-Southern Region; sub-tropical, temperate as of the southern part of the contry and warm, semiarid, as of the Northeastern Region. In the equatorial and northeastern zones the average annual temperature Lardly variable, ranges between 24 and 26C. The highest maximum average, with about 32 centrigates, are found in the northeastern hinterland part of Amazonia and in the swamps of Mato Grosso. In the Mid-Southern Region annual averages between 20 and 22C predominate. On the other hand, in very elevated areas as of the southern plateau with well marked winters, the annual temperature averages under 18C. The hydric regime is even more variable than the thermic one, so that regions ean be found which range from super-humid in the extreme west of the Amazonia basin, of the east of Bahia and mountainous arcas of the mid-south, up to the semi-arid regions in the northeast. The hydric abalance according to Thorntiwaite's method that keeps account of the water in the soil, reveals noticeable and surprising hydric seasonal deficies in the central part of the Amazonia basin. Ir show further a certain climatic aridity in the region of the swamps of Mato Grosso and small summer deficiencies in the extreme southern part of the country.
